The good news is Chrissy Metz has lost 100 pounds without any surgeries solely because of her strong dedication, a fixed 2000 calorie intake per day & exercise. Chrissy Metz, who was born in Homestead, Florida on 29th September 1980, had a difficult childhood. Apart from her constant weight loss struggles, she also had to struggle for the love of her father & to have decent money throughout her life until she made it on her own! Her father divorced her mother when Chrissy Metz was just 8 years old. He remarried the same day their divorce was finalized. Chrissy, her mother & two siblings lived in a trailer park in Gainesville, Florida. The family suffered years of extreme poverty. Her mother would often skip meals so that the children could eat. Her mother worked in a grocery store. Chrissy Metz told in an interview how she used to wander in grocery store aisles while her siblings were in school because she didn’t want to be alone.

Unfortunately, that’s not it. It got worse. Her mother got pregnant with someone she met at work, but that guy disappeared after knowing about the pregnancy. And another little member was added to the household soon. Later, her mother, Denise Metz met a man named Crayton Hodge, a man who became Chrissy’s stepfather. Chrissy Metz’s life didn’t get easier & her stepfather started abusing her mentally & shaming her for being overweight. He harshly pushed this young teen girl to lose weight. He would constantly make jokes about her heavy body and how he feels like putting locks on the refrigerator. He would stare at her when she would eat food which is the worst you can do to someone. She told in an interview how he would slam the weighing scale in the kitchen & tell her to “get on the damn thing”. She said her stepfather accepted all her siblings but her (He later disputed & denied all the allegations & said he never interfered or controlled her in any way & she was free to eat whatever she wanted. Later she disproved all this in the book she published in 2018). When Chrissy Metz was 11 years old, she even joined weight watchers as the youngest member of the program & said it was awkward.

Weight is something that can be reduced or gained but the terrible mental bruises you leave on a child’s mind & self-confidence take a hell of a time to fade. Be kind & thoughtful of what you say to people around you about their looks, body & physical appearance & be kind even to yourself.

Chrissy’s Marriage

Chrissy Metz met this British journalist, Martyn Eaden in 2006 on a dating site. They talked via emails for months & then Martyn visited her in the US. Eventually, they got married in 2008 on 5h January in California. They both were busy in their careers & the relationship started collapsing with every passing year. Martyn filed for divorce in 2014 with “irreconcilable difference” as the cause. Their divorce got finalized in 2015.

Chrissy Metz later revealed that she met her dreamboat, a guy named Bradley Collins at the start of covid-19 lockdown via the dating app Bumble. They have been together since then & make a beautiful couple. Can’t be happier for Chrissy!

Chrissy Metz is an American singer and actress who started her career in 2005. She was doing some not so lead & significant roles in her acting career because of her weight issues until she got her breakthrough role in the series “This is Us”. She only had 81 cents in her bank account when she was offered the role of Kate. She had said in one of her interviews that a big reason she could live up to that character & pull off that role so amazingly was because she could relate so much with the character Kate Pearson. The journey of a chubby girl fighting with food, her mind & with all the slim girls around, into this witty confident woman who teaches singing & is a bang-on mother of two!

That series ran from 2016-2022 and got her nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for the best-supporting actress, two golden globe awards & a crazy fan base. She also did a few movies in that phase, Breakthrough, Stay Awake, etc.

In 2018, Chrissy Metz published her book called, This Is Me: loving the person you are today. She publicly shared her story, her constant weight gain struggles, her problematic childhood, how her mother had difficulty finding fit for her dresses, and how she has been facing bullies since elementary school.   • Chrissy Metz’s insecurities about her weight & not getting acting roles in L.A led to an eating disorder which made her health & weight worse. She became depressed, became an emotional eater & gained another 100 pounds. She said, “I was eating my feelings”. On her 30th birthday, she suffered a massive panic attack & was rushed to the hospital. That incident was a major turning point for her & she realized the hospital visit was a wake-up call. Her Father, Mark Metz also had weight issues & underwent 4 bypass operations. She decided she didn’t want the same to happen to her.
  • When Chrissy starred in the show “American Horror Story”, she had to wear a prosthetic fat suit & she told the media that “it was sobering, I thought, what if I become that heavy and can’t walk around or get stuck in the door frame. I don’t want this for me”
  • In 2016 “This is Us” came. The actress told that “in the contract, they requested her to lose weight to mirror the character’s journey”. She accepted the request in a very positive way. She said “The request wasn’t insulting at all. Rather it was a ‘win-win’ for me. Because it’s one thing to try to lose weight on your own, but as humans, we’re more likely to do it for someone else since it becomes an ego thing”.

How did Chrissy Metz lose weight? After the panic attack, Chrissy Metz contacted a nutritionist who helped her figure out what foods work and what foods don’t work for her body. The nutritionist also helped Chrissy figure out how many calories her body needed each day to reach her goal weight. Chrissy started off with a very positive mindset as she progressed on her weight loss journey. 

In 2017, Chrissy Metz even partnered with weight watchers and adopted their SmartPoints system. The program worked really well for her and she shed almost 50 pounds. Sadly, by 2018, her weight started increasing again. Despite the setback, Chrissy Metz didn’t give up on her weight loss journey and maintained a positive mind towards reaching her goal. 

She stopped stepping on the weighing scale since she just wanted a healthy body & a happy mind. As they say, if the numbers mess with your brain, chuck them out. Focus on your everyday progress & the results will automatically come with time.

Chrissy Metz Diet & Exercises

Chrissy Metz’s diet had a few NO-NOs on unhealthy foods like sugar, processed foods, fried foods, baked goodies, vegetable oils, or food items with white refined flour. She was on a fixed-2000 calorie diet a day. It’s a restrictive diet that requires a person to burn more than 2000 calories every day to lose weight. Chrissy Metz ate a balanced and healthy diet focusing on whole foods like fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, seeds, eggs, oats, etc.

In 2018 interview with God Housekeeping, Chrissy Metz said she has continued to prioritize her health and fitness journey since joining the cast of ” This is Us”. She said she works out with a personal trainer and really enjoys hikes and dance classes as a form of Cardio.

Her exercises included a mix of everything, like weight training, cardio & 20 min of walking every day. She worked out for at least 5 days a week to increase her metabolism and burn calories. She also used yoga & meditation to keep her stress in check.

  1. Portion size- I can’t begin to emphasize how big of a difference this change will make on you, your body & lifestyle. As I said earlier, weight loss should be a lifestyle, obviously following a well-balanced diet in general, but when you learn to control your portion size, you learn how to indulge in your favorite dishes every now & then without making a fuss about it. For e.g., Limit the dessert to say two tsp. That’s it. You ate it, you enjoyed it. Now portion size means, you should know when to put the spoon down.
  2. Replacing – Again another way to indulge in your favorite foods is ‘replacing’. Who said you cannot eat a pizza on a Monday night?  If you are craving pizza, eat one with a whole wheat/cauliflower crust rather than refined flour & put lots of veggies on it but don’t forget to limit the portion size. Just when you’re 80% full, you are good to put down that plate. You’re done, honey. There are great replacements for almost every bad temptation you have. Another example is Nutella, everyone loves that shit, but if you want to eat it every weekend on your toast, make a healthy version of it on your own, store it in the fridge & enjoy it in a portion-controlled way. It’s so easy to make. There are millions of recipes out there.
  3. Timing matters- Say, you have one cheat meal every week & it could be any junk food you want. It’s your cheat day but try & enjoy that dish in the first half of the day. Your metabolism is at its peak in the morning & gradually decreases with the day and the sun. Hence, at night, your metabolic rate is at its lowest. Anything you put in your stomach will take a long time to digest, your body will more likely store those calories as fats & gain weight rather than burn them as energy. So, give lighter things to your stomach which are easy to digest at night & binge your fav cheat meal in the morning or before 5 PM when you’ll be able to get away with it easily.
If you are craving something particular someday & even if it’s not healthy, just eat it. Weight loss shouldn’t feel like a punishment. It should be more of a lifestyle that you follow happily every single day.

What are FAD diets? Are they effective?

Fad diets are stupid trendy weight loss plans that promise to bring dramatic results but they disturb your hormones & mind. Even if you get some dramatic results in a short time frame, they will start vanishing when you are off these fad diets. So, it’s never a good idea to shock your body with these new trends which change every other day. 

When you make these dramatic changes, your body doesn’t understand what is happening, sometimes you don’t eat till noon, sometimes you completely take off the carbs & fats, etc. The Body is unable to work in harmony & is always trying to deal with the new trends you are putting it on. As a result of these shocks, your hair may start falling out, your skin might look dull, and dehydrated & your nails might become brittle.

Give the body a balanced diet every day with good fats, protein, and the necessary amount of carbs. Sometimes the body craves something sweet so have some of that as well. You are a human after all. Once you balance the food & nutrition, see how your body reacts positively to it.

Losing weight can be challenging especially when you’re always in the public eye but Chrissy Metz’s weight loss journey is nothing but simply inspiring and fierce. She’s come out strong and has given hope to so many people out there.

Chrissy Metz lost 100 pounds in 5 months and weighs 83 Kg/182 Pounds now, she says that she still thinks she’s on the chubbier side based on conventional body weight but she feels happier, healthier & slimmer than before. Her goal is to simply be well-proportioned & live a healthy life.

Chrissy took to Instagram to thank her fans “I hope that in some small way, an unconventional body wearing an unconventional material opened a discussion, hearts & minds”. When the bullies pop up, Chrissy says:” I just either don’t respond or respond with kindness. Because I think that’s what they really need.” She wrote on Twitter “For the record, I wear what I want when I want. News flash it’s MY body ‘thankstho‘”.
